Our Dead Room, located directly beneath the Control Room, is where we generally track vocals because we can eliminate the sound of the room from the recording, capturing just the vocal and nothing else. There is natural light in the room, but we like to light it up to create a nice mood.

Darker in every sense, this room is where we would record anything else that needs focus and clarity, for example 70’s style drums or super dry acoustic guitar. It is also a good place to record parts that might be destined for artificial ambience later on in the recording process. The EMT-140 plugin from Universal Audio in particular provides beautiful vintage sounding plate reverb for this purpose.

We also have tie-lines to this room, so if we are recording electric guitar we can keep the player in the control room and send the guitar signal down to the amp in the Dead Room if the player so desires.
